Deputy education minister, daughter of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and niece of incumbent President Abdulla Yameen, Yumna Maumoon has resigned.
During her tenure as Deputy Education Minister, Yumna had overseen the administration of the Department of Heritage. She was appointed to the post in June 2014.
According to sources, she resigned on Thursday. Reasons for her decision remain unknown.
Despite Yumna’s resignation her siblings remain in top positions of the Yameen Administration. Her sister Dhunya Maumoon is the foreign minister, brother Farish Maumoon is the MP for Dhiggaru constituency and Gassan Maumoon is a State Minister at the President’s Office.
