Defense and National Security Minister Adam Shareef has stated that the nation will be able to recover from the current situation.
He made the statement speaking in the official ceremony held Tuesday night to mark the Victory Day in Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi.
Adam Shareef said that the discovery of IED’s on the 2nd of this month was a key concern. He added that the army personnel who had worked to defuse the IED had carried out the endeavor with little regard to their personal safety. He said that it was gladdening that such service personnel existed in the country.
Minister Shareef said that the most important aspect for the Government was personal liberties and safety of the public. He said that the army personnel was responsible to safeguard these liberties and was responsible to create a system to follow in such situations.
He added that the state of emergency was declared as a last resort option, but will not hamper the daily lives of public. Minister Shareef said that the Government has a “zero tolerance” policy on terrorism and any attempts to circumvent the legal systems of the country. He said that the policy of the Government was to ensure a rapid resolution to the issue and to normalize the situation at the earliest time possible. He appealed to the public to lend support in this time.
Adam Shareef said that the present situation was similar to the terror attacks of 3rd November 1988, with the aim to destabilize the nation by force. He also said that the current situation were recurring episodes of the explosion aboard on the Presidential speedboat on 28th September.
