Defense Minister calls on teachers to limit instances of ill behavior

Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar has called on teachers to be proactive in limiting the ill behaviors seen in the society.
The Minister, who has had over 30 years of experience in the education sector, made the statement speaking in the graduation ceremony of the graduates of the National Institute for Education held in Ghiyasuddin School.
Adam Shareef said that issue of drugs, sexual harassment, and violence was prevalent in the society today.
“The culture that existed before is almost extinct. While our education standards had increased, our work ethic has disappeared,” he said.
Shareef said that while many were graduating with high accolades, it was deeply saddening that there were just as many entering jails. He added that the education sector had to seriously address the issue and to change the issues.
Minister said that even last night, the armed forces and police had to act to maintain peace on the streets.
He added that the Government had initiated many reforms to change the situation, adding that education and discipline was essential in bringing about a lasting change.
“Scholars say the real game changers are teachers, with students emulating the examples set by the teachers,” he said.
Shareef stressed that training teachers was an essential aspect of this. He appealed all stakeholders to unite in the effort to create a better generation.
