Target to finish bridge by Independence Day 2018: Housing Minister

Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizz has stated that they were targeting to finish the China Maldives Friendship Bridge by Independence Day 2018.
Speaking in a press conference in Housing Ministry Dr. Muizz stated that work was underway on creating the platform that will be used in future construction of the bridge. As such, three of the 20 beams that will be used in the project have been constructed. Five vessels are now working in the project.
Dr. Muizz said that a laboratory had been created to ensure quality of the project.
He added that the consultant appointed by China for the project was highly capable and had worked in international projects. He noted that the Ministry’s engineers were closely working with the consultant.
Dr. Muizz said that this was the biggest project run in the country, adding that the project was closely scrutinized by governments of the two countries.
Dr. Muizz also said that 900 Chinese citizens will be employed in the construction out of which 446 citizens had already arrived in the Maldives.
He further added that the biggest challenge for the project was the tides and waves in the area.
