President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has declared that, for the first time in Maldivian history, a flat recipient list has been released free from influence and interference. He made the remarks while speaking at a function held at tbe Republic Square following the redevelopment and inauguration of the Izzuddin Jetty.
Earlier on Thursday, the government published the list of applicants who met the criteria to be eligible for 4,000 flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme. According to the list, a total of 1,820 applicants met the eligibility criteria.
Speaking regarding the list, the President highlighted that the newly released list was finalised after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) reviewed issues in the list issued by the previous government, and reassessed the points awarded to applicants. He noted that the list states the reason for disqualifications or ineligibility in cases where applicants do not meet the assessment criteria. He affirmed that no applicant had been intentionally removed from the list without reason, and that the current Government is committed to serving the people with equality, compassion, and justice.
“The biggest assurance I can provide you is that not an ounce of influence affected this list. This list was prepared free from influence,” he stated.
The President encouraged applicants not deemed eligible on the list for various reasons to submit complaints through the established procedure within the specified timeframe. The President stated that once the complaint period has ended, the cases will be reviewed, and individuals who qualify for a flat will be considered. Should any flats remain, they will be allocated based on the points awarded according to the applicant's criteria.
The President also assured that, even if they are not included in the list released, additional housing projects would be undertaken in the Male’ area, providing housing opportunities for the people of Male’ City and all citizens aged 18 and above.
The President further assured that the Government would not take away any flat or land allocated to any individual. He reaffirmed his commitment to the pledge, stating that it would remain unchanged even in the future.
