Maldives cannot be conquered in the same manner as that of King Hassan’s endeavor: Minister Thoriq

Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim has levelled harsh criticism towards the former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Speaking in Gaaf Dhaal Gahdhoo, Minister Thoriq said that King Hassan IX had gained control of the country by dispatching Portuguese troops, after he had fled to India. He likened this to the current efforts made by President Nasheed, adding that even if King Hassan IX was successful, Nasheed should not hope that his efforts will be so.
Minister Thoriq added that while Nasheed was abroad and spinning tales for the international media, the detrimental effects of this fell on the unsuspecting and innocent public. He said the clean water system that was launched in the island was only made possible with foreign assistance. Any sanctions on the country, he said, will impact the citizens.
“They say do not give help, [Maldivians] do not need aid,” he said.
Minister Thoriq added that this had already hampered the progress of most of the aid.
