MDP and JP members oppose the dismissal of SC judges

MDP and JP members in Parliament oppose the notion of dismissal of Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz and Judge Mu’uthasim Adnaan over their inadequacy issues.
While debating over the subject، many of the members highlighted that the JSC released report regarding the case had not been received to any of the members، and the constitution does not have any indictments that can force the notion of inadequacy of the two Supreme Court judges. Members also emphasized that until the report has not been received، they will not be certain of the SC judges bench and who are in various designations in Supreme Court Judges bench.
In addition to this، MDP member of Parliament Rozaina Adam said that while many of the government-backed MPs in the Majilis are trying to obstruct the judicial body of the nation، MDP will not support this at any cost.
Rozaina also added that removal of the judge who has received allegations on indecent behavior is still present in Supreme Court but he had lost all his credibility and the dismissal of this specific judge holds more priority over dismissal of the two judges who are currently the subject.
Speaking at the Majilis، north-Maafannu constituency member Imthiyaz Fahumy claimed that Maldives does not have a constitution of law currently in action، and the dismissal of the two SC judges is nothing but mockery to the judiciary field. Two others members from MDP also debated against the notion and strongly criticized the JSC decision.
Mathiveri constituency member Hussain Mohamed urged that today’s decision that Majilis was trying to pass is not an act to support the judiciary system of Maldives.
Kendhoo constituency member Ali Hussain raised concern over the two SC judges not receiving privilege to defend themselves and thus opposed the notion as well، while Adaalath Party member Anaaraa Naeem stated that JSC’s report on the case is of importance and must be presented to Majilis.
